BOY KILLED BY A KICK
Little Luverne* Klinefelter's Sad Accident Last Evening.
While Passing Behind Horse Received Fatal Blow.
Lived Only 20 Minutes. Funeral at 2:30 p.m. Tomorrow.
A sad accident occurred about 6 o'clock lust evening, which resulted in the death of Luverne, the four-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. John W. Kllnefelter, Jr.
The little fellow was kicked by a horse in his father's barn on West Park Avenue, living only about twenty minutes after receiving the fatal blow.
The funeral will be held tomorrow at the home, 427 Jefferson Street, at 2:30 p.m.; it being held this early on account of the sickness of the sister of decedent.
Little Luverne, a bright and winsome boy, has been playing around the barn ever since he has been able to walk. He was a general favorite among the men and with the people who customarily passed the street, having a smile and cheery good morning, and "I'm your boy," to those who would give him a penny. A number of people have been accustomed to giving the lad a penney or a nickel and he has been buying candy with the contributions.
Last evening, the express man gave him a penny and he went to a store to convert his cash into sweets. Returning to the barn, Luverne entered by way of a side door on the northeast side, an entrance he had never been known to use before. Standing in a stall next to the door is the whie horse owned by Conductor Jess Hayes, who lives at 421 Wellington Street. Just as the little lad was passing the horse's heels it struck him with one foot on the right side, just below the ribs and over the liver.
The boy in paroxysms of pain screamed, attracting the attention of the men about the barn. They hurried to him and found him writhing in agony, all doubled up. It was at first thought that he had fallen from an opening in the second floor, which was just above, but an examination revealed the little tracks in the alley and entering the side door.
Physicians were hurriedly summoned, but could do nothing for the sufferer, and after lingering for twenty minutes, the little life was rendered up. Death was due to interanl hemorhage.
If Luverne had lived he would have been four years old the 7th of October.
He leaves two brothers and a sister.
