LaPorte City Man Is Dead at Age 100

LaPorte City, Ia- Edward A. Carr, who came to Spring Creek township, Black Hawk county, Iowa, when roads through the township were but trails and the mails in and out of LaPorte City were carried by riders, died at 6 A.M. Friday at the home of his grandson, Welwood Williams, in Spring Creek township, of complications of age.

He was 100 years old. Mr Carr suffered a fractured hip in a fall last November.

He was born November 29, 1847, at Wilkes- Barre,PA, the son of Edward T. and Susan (Kettle) Carr. When he was four his mother died and he went to live with a family in the country.

He became interested in custom butchering and when he was 21 went to Independence, PA., and opened his own butcher shop, which he continued for 11 years.

In the year 1879 he came to Spring Creek township, near LaPorte City, and farmed for 40 years, retiring to town in 1919. He lived in LaPorte City for 25 years and after that made his home with relatives.

In 1873 he married Brunetta Isenhower, who preceded him in 1920. Later he married Alice Crowley, who died a number of years ago.

Surviving are seven children, Warren Carr, Hudson; Wayne, Laramie, Wyoming; Minerva Grettenberg, Coon Rapids; Mrs Lula Peterson, Boston, Mass; Mrs Hazel Sellers, Mt Auburn; Mrs. Daisie Porter, Sacramento, Cal; Mrs. Maude Williams, Waterloo; 11 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren.

Also preceding him were a son and a daughter.

Funeral services will be at 2:30 P.M. at the Welwood Williams home, with burial in Pleasant Hill cemetery.
