WATERLOO — The Rev. Richard C. Witmer, 68, of Ashland, Ohio, formerly of Waterloo, died Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2000 at Samaritan Regional Health Center, Ashland, of natural causes.
He was born Sept. 2, 1932, in Ashland, son of Harold C. and Mary Smith Witmer. He married Margaret Renalds on Sept. 2, 1956.
The Rev. Witmer graduated from McPherson College in 1965 and earned his master of divinity from Bethany Theological Seminary in 1968. He served as pastor of several congregations, including Conway Springs, Kan.; Pleasant Hill, Ohio; Mount Morris, Ill.; East Chippewa, Ohio; South Waterloo Church of the Brethren; and since retirement in 1997 has served two interim assignments, in Troy and Eden, Ohio. Witmer was serving as chair of the Peace Task Team in the Northern Ohio District.
Survived by his wife; two sons, Lynn of Toronto, and David of Ashland; two daughters, Candace Crist of Oxford, Ohio, and Diane Cooper of Southwest Ranches, Fla.; seven grandchildren; and a sister, Harriet Watring of Woodbridge, Va.
Memorial services were Saturday at First Church of the Brethren, with burial in Dickey Cemetery, both in Ashland. Van Hove Funeral Home, Ashland, was in charge of arrangements.
