Charles Simons, 83, Survivor of Libby, Dies at Cedar Falls
CEDAR FALLS - Charles Simons, who spent six months in Libby prison during the Civil War before being exchanged, died here last night at the age of 63. He had been ill a long time.
Mr. Simons had been making his home with a daughter, Mrs. W. W. West, who resides on Iowa Street.
He was born on May 21, 1844, in New York and in 1965 came to Bremer County, where he resided at Norton's Corners until 28 years ago, when he came to Cedar Falls.
His wife died some years ago. Surviving besides the daughter are two sons, O. L., in Oklahoma, and John who resides near Janesville.
