HAROLD LYLE BAER

Services for Harold Lyle Baer, 59, of 505 Sherman, Waterloo, are pending at Chapel of Memories West, where friends may call after 7 pm Sunday.

Mr. Baer died early Saturday at Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri while visiting his son.

He was born October 11, 1920 in Newell, son of Walter H. and Elsie L. Baer. He married Ethel Lucille Miller June 21, 1944 in Dunkerton.

He served in Europe during World War II and later graduated from the University of Northern Iowa. He received his bachelor's and master's degrees from UNI. He taught in Winterset and Van Meter before teaching in the Waterloo Community Schools in 1956 until his medical retirement in 1977.

While in Waterloo he taught at Edison and Logan Junior High schools, was principal at Longfellow, Grant, City View and Jewett elementary schools, and was director of Title I.

Surviving are his wife, his mother, Elsie Lisle Baer of the Western Home, Cedar Falls; two sons, Charles at home and SSgt. Robert L. of Whiteman Air Force Base, Missouri; four daughters, Judith DeLong, Jean Marvitz, Carol Middleton and Brenda Baer, all of Waterloo; three sisters, Adrienne Moulds of Marion, Nannette Thies of Denver and Nancy Eldridge of Dunkerton; and nine grandchildren.
