Sudden Death from Heart
Disease Comes While at
Northern Lake

The body of Roy D. Colvin, 45, 1138 Bertch Avenue, police driver, who died yesterday at 3:30 p. m. at Lake Francis, Minn., arrived in Waterloo early this morning. Death, which came within a few minutes after Mr. Colvin began to feel ill, was caused from hardening of the arteries of the heart.

Mr. Colvin, who had gone on a week's fishing trip north of Mankato, Minn., with his wife, Motorcycle Officer and Mrs. W. H. Wilson and Mrs. Elsie Davis, was expected to return for duty at police headquarters tomorrow afternoon.

Mr. Colvin was born Oct. 28, 1883, at 1418 Black Hawk Street. He attended West Waterloo schools, later being graduated from West High. "Buck," as he was called by his friends, joined the police force Sept. 20, 1919. Police officers say that he was one of the most courageous men the force has ever had.

Surviving besides his widow are his father, A. F. Colvin, 1418 Black Hawk Street; a brother, George Colvin, Cedar Falls road, and six sisters, Mrs. Bert Yockey, 1416 Black Hawk Street; Mrs. Earl Polyard, 1415 Black Hawk Street; Mrs. Frank Coon, 1418 Black Hawk Street; Mrs. Orville Mapes, 1014 Commercial Street; Mrs. August Weinhold, Elk Run park; and Mrs. Ed Stewart, Oakland, Cal. Another sister, Nona Colvin, and Mrs. A. F. Colvin, the mother; preceded Mr. Colvin in death by nine years.

Funeral Services Friday

Funeral services will be at 9 a. m. Friday at Petersen Bros.' chapel, Rev. F. Herbert Moehlmann, pastor of Trinity American Lutheran church, officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood. As many members of the police department as possible will attend in a group to pay tribute to their dead colleague.

Mayor Glenn A. Tibbitts this afternoon issued a statement in honor of Officer Colvin, in which he said:

"Officer Colvin was one of our most successful officers. He was always pleasant in his relations with the public, and he always had a smile. A man like that is remembered. 'Buck' Colvin was known and counted as a friend by thousands in this city."

Smith-Colvin Nuptials.

Miss Anna Smith and Roy Colvin were united in marriage at 3 o'clock Wednesday afternoon by Justice J. H. Hildebrand. The wedding was solemnized at the home of T. H. Suttman, 411 Commercial Street. There were only a few immediate friends present.

The groom is an industrious young man who has been employed for some time by the Herrick Refrigerator Co. Waterloo will be their home and they will settle down to housekeeping at once.
