Cedar Falls - Dorothy Deve Petersen, 94, of Cedar Falls died Thursday, January 26 of pneumonia at Sartori Memorial Hospital.

She was born September 11, 1911, in Pierson, Iowa, daughter of William and Ethel Fey. She married John H. Petersen on June 30, 1932 at Rock Branch Methodist Church in rural Woodbury County. Her husband died May 9, 1986.

Mrs. Petersen graduated from Anthon High School in 1929 and received an Iowa Teaching Certificate from Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, Iowa. She taught in rural schools in Woodbury County for many years.

She and her husband owned and operated the Coast to Coast store in Anthon for a number of years. After selling their business they worked in hardware stores in Sioux City, Moville and Le Mars. In 1979 Dorothy and her husband moved to Cedar Falls. Since August of 2005, Dorothy lived at the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home. Dorothy was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Cedar Falls.

Survivors include two daughters, Delores (Richard) Lynch of Cedar Falls, and Joan (Donald) Smith of Edwardsville, Kansas, one son, Steven (Jolene) Petersen of Independence, Iowa, eight grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.

Preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her brother Donald, and grandson, Jeff Douglas.
