Renewal of the vows which united Mr. and Mrs. G. A. Vogel of this place in bonds of matrimony 50 years ago was a feature Wednesday of the golden wedding celebration of the couple.

They renewed their nuptial pledge at St. Athanasius Church here at 9 o'clock, with Rev. Father W. J. Baxter officiating at the ceremony and the mass which followed. Mrs. Vogel wore a gown of gray satin back crepe, trimmed with lace collar and cuffs and touches of gold ribbon.

Mr. and Mrs. Vogel. who now are 76 and 70 years old respectively, made their first marriage vows at St. Peter and Paul Church. Clear Lake**, la., before Rev. Father Kem. They resided at Keota in the early years of their marriage and came to Black Hawk County 15 years ago, later moving to Jesup.

The social observances of the anniversary culminated in a wedding dinner, served to 60 guests at the home of their son, Sylvester, near Jesup. Colors of gold and white were combined in an elaborate decorative effect of the rooms in which the guests were received and at the table.

A particularly effective arrangement was made in placing the tables at which the dinner was served in a hollow square, in the center of which a small table gave the anniversary cake the place of honor. The cake, presented by Rev. Mother Superior Celestine of St Francis of Assissi convent, Milwaukee, Wis., decorated by Sisters Killion and Josephine, and its ornaments included two crosses from the cake which was served at the silver anniversary of their daughter, Sister Killion, who is a religious at St. Francis Convent.

Ten children and 13 grandchildren were included in the party. The children were Sister Killion*, Milwaukee, Wis., Mrs. Gus Dumont, Sigourney. la.; Mrs. Sid McDonald, Keota, la,; Rose and Matilda, Chicago: John, Kimball, S. D.; Frank, Sylvester, William and Albert, all of Jesup. Besides the children and their families there were present: Sister Mechtildis and Sister Josephine, St. Francis. Wis., nieces of Mr. Vogel: Father W. J. Baxter, Miss Margaret Barter, Jesup, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Vogel, Harper, la.: Mrs. Peter Vogel, Sigourney. la.; Mrs. Liborious Conrad, Keota, la.; Frank Lutz and son, Ambrose, Harper, la.; Mrs. Joe Peiffer and son, Joe; Mrs. Peter Peiffer and son, Will; Mrs. Nick Flander and daughter. *Discrepency between the two articles regarding the name Killion and Killian, and her husband's obit says Kiliana. Gravestone at Saint Francis Seminary Woods Cemetery, Milwaukee, Wisconsin is inscribed "Sister M. Kilian Vogel 1884-1959".
** Other documents indicate this may be Clear Creek, Iowa instead of Clear Lake.
