Funeral, services are pending at Parrott 4 Wood Funeral Home for George Torkelson Jr.; 31, of 1749 Plymouth Ave.

He died Monday morning at University Hospitals in Iowa City of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, authorities said. Police said Mr. Torkeison was found in the basement of his parent's home, 714 Kirkwood Ave., about 12:50 a.nrL Sunday with a gunshot wound to his head.

A .22 caliber pistol was found nearby, police said. Torkelson was taken to Schoitz Memorial Hospital and then
transferred to Iowa City by a' National Guard helicopter.

Funeral services for George Torkelson Jr., 31, of 714 Kirkwood Ave., will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Grace Lutheran Church, with burial in the Garden of Memories.He died Monday morning of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, authorities said.

Friends may call at Parrott and Wood Funeral Home. The casket will not be opened.

He was born April 22, 1943, in Waterloo, the son of George and Emma Taylor Torkelson. He was married to Joan Hines Nov. 4, 1962, in Waterloo. He was employed at Waterloo Industries.

Survivors include his wife, 1749 Plymouth Ave.; three daughters, Lora, 11, Julie, 10, and Kari, 5, all at home; and his parents, 714 Kirkwood Ave.

Friends wishing may give memorials to the church in his name.
