MCKEVITT, NUGENT, MCDONNELL, KELLEY

James McKevitt, 79, for more than 44 years an employe of the Rock Island railroad here, died at 3:15 p. m. Wednesday at his home, 400 West £ixth street, of a heart and circulatory ailment.

Mr. McKevitt retired as section foreman of the Cedar Rapids-Dakota division of the Rock Island in November, 1931, having served in that capacity since 1800. He had entered the service as a laborer in May, 1887.

Mr. McKevitt was born on a farm near Washburn, la., Nov. 17, 1862, and lived there with his parents until 1887. He made his home in Waterloo for the last 55 years of his life.

On April 27, 1887 he married Miss Margaret Nugent at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Waterloo. She died in 1899. Several years later he married Miss Mary McDonnell, who died in 1933.

Surviving are a son, John McKevitt, 1360 Sycamore Street, and two daughters, Grace McKevitt and Nell McKevitt. both of 400 West Sixth Street; a brother, Edward McKevitt. McFarland, Cal.; a sister, Mrs. Chris Kelley, 219 West Seventh Street,1 two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

One son, one daughter, four brothers and two sisters preceded Mr. McKevitt in death.

Funeral services will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic church, of which Mr. McKevitt was a charter member, at 9 a. m. Saturday, with Rev. Msgr. Edward J. Dougherty officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. The Rosary Society of Sacred Heart Church will meet at the Ray Hurley funeral home, 927 Washington Street, Thursday at 8 p.m. The body will be taken to the McKevitt home, 400 West Sixth Street, Friday evening.
