George “Terry” Halligan, age 79, of Waterloo, passed away on July 13, 2013, of natural causes.

Per Terry’s request there will be no viewing or services. His body was cremated, his soul went to heaven, and he will live in our hearts forever. In memory of Terry, do what he did best, “Enjoy Life!”

Internment of ashes will be at West View Cemetery, La Porte City, at a later date. Iowa Cremation, Cedar Rapids, is handling arrangements.

Terry was born in Waterloo on Sept. 28, 1933. He married Marlene Buck on Oct. 29, 1955; they were married 57 years and had three daughters.

He worked as a supervisor, first for Titus Manufacturing, and later for John Deere Engine Works, retiring in 1993. After retirement Terry became the owner/operator of T&H Enterprises, specializing in expedited delivery of machine engines for John Deere Engine Works. He continued this work until his full retirement in 2005. Additionally, he enjoyed his lifelong sideline work as a tree trimmer. Recreationally, he enjoyed camping, fishing, and boating with his many family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Marlene; his three daughters, Tina Freshwater (Jeff) of Hudson, Tammy Hatfield (Bruce) of Waterloo and Tarasa Lown of Ferryville, Wis.; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Leo of Hudson and Mike of Brandon; a sister, Ethel McMurray of Barneston, Neb.; many nieces and nephews, and many other family and friends.

His parents, Charles and Neoma Halligan, his brothers, Danny and Larry, and his son-in-law, Terry Lown, preceded him in death.

Terry Halligan touched a lot of lives and many will dearly miss him. Memorial donations, in his name, may be given to Cedar Valley Hospice at 2001 Kimball Ave., Waterloo, IA 50701 (cvhospice.org). Terry’s family wishes to thank the staff of Cedar Valley Hospice for their wholehearted, warm, and compassionate care.
