[Waterloo Courier, Wednesday, October 31, 1883, Waterloo, Iowa]
From Barclay Township, Oct. 22, 1883
On the 10th inst. Mrs. Catherine Schuler died after an illness of only three days. Her age was 66 years, 8 months and 12 days.
She was born in Germany in 1817; came to America in 1849, and to our township in 1958. All her children, four sons and three daughters, survive her and were present at the funeral, save Edward, who was out west.
She was a member of the Evangelical church, and was buried Oct. 12th beside her husband, who died over a year ago.
Mrs. Schuler was highly respected by all who knew her. She was one of our pioneer mothers, and knew of the hardships of frontier life in Iowa. Our sympathy is extended to the afflicted ones in their great loss Mr. F. Fritz and wife and Mrs. Matilda Schmitt are back from Ohio, where they have been on a two weeks' visit. Frank brought his mother with him. We hope the old lady will like our State as well as Ohio.
