GRUNDY CENTER — George D. Potts, 78, of Grundy Center; died Monday Feb. 14, 2005, at Grundy County Memorial Hospital Long-Term Care Unit, Grundy Center, from carcinoma.

He was born Nov. 9, 1926, in Oelwein, son of Clark and Leota Kunkle Potts. He married Norma Fossler and they later divorced. On March 5, 1977, he married Dorothy "Dot" Bishop at First Presbyterian Church in Cedar Falls.

Mr. Potts graduated from East High School, Waterloo, then served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. Over the years he owned several businesses in Waterloo, Hudson, and Grundy Center. He also drove a bulk tank and hauled milk for Carnation and the Hudson Creamery for many years.

Survivors include his wife; five daughters: Carolyn (Alan) Clansman of Waterloo, Erlene (Jeff) Rhoades and Kelly (Martin) Bevard, both of Hudson, Rene (Keith) Johns of Cedar Falls and Lori Abernathy of Marshalltown; three sons, George of Washburn, Jeffrey of Tampa, Fla., and James (Stephanie) of Cedar Rapids; 16 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by a grandson.

Services: 11 a.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church, with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery, both in Grundy Center. Full military rites will be conducted by Grundy Center AMVETS Post 17, American Legion Post 349 and Hudson AMVETS Post 82. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home, Grundy Center.

Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice in Grundy Center, the church, or to Grundy County Memorial Hospital.
