Cedar Falls, Iowa

Faye was born April 7, 1925, in McIntire, Iowa, the daughter of Leland and Leora (Fairbanks) Shepard. On January 3, 1945, she was united in marriage to James LeRoy Haynes in Waterloo. They were later divorced. She then married Clifford E. Johnston October 17, 1952 in Sioux City, Iowa. He died May 8, 1985.

She was a member of both the Cedar Falls AMVETS Post #49 and American Legion Auxiliaries and First United Methodist Church.

Faye is survived by her children, Steven L. (Betty) Haynes of Dunedin, Florida, Judy J. (Jim) Sissel of Lincoln, Nebraska, Sandra K. (Bob) Martin of Jesup, Iowa, Janice F. (Bryan) Benson of Cedar Falls, and Clifford E. (Cathy) Johnston of Skiatook, Oklahoma; eight grandchildren, Kris Backman of Winner, South Dakota, Angie Swope of Iowa City, Tony and Mike Sissel, both of Omaha, Nebraska, Cliff Sissel of Chicago, Illinois, Erik Rasmussen of Waterloo, Scott Rasmussen of Jesup, Iowa, and Luke Benson of Cedar Falls; five great grandchildren; and sister, Mildred (John) Gutknecht of Cedar Falls.

Faye died Monday, November 21, 2005, at Windsor Nursing and Rehab Center in Cedar Falls. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three brothers, Leonard, Bernard, and Merle Shepard; and sister, Mary Young.
