March 10, 1928 - August 17, 2013

Warren Rohland Schlicht, 85, of Cedar Falls, died Saturday August 17, at Sartori Memorial Hospital. He was born March 10, 1928 near Reinbeck, son of Emil and Lois Ohrt Schlicht. He married Dorothy Zimmerman on November 8, 1947 near Cedar Falls.

After graduating from Hudson Community School Warren worked for Otto Pete, Bob Klink, Heisler Manufacturing, and Black Hawk Tractor until 1953 when he and Dorothy started farming, first north of Waterloo and then north of Hudson. He also worked at the Co-op Dairy in Hudson. Warren had a dairy herd, raised hogs, fed cattle, and raised corn, beans, oats, and hay. He retired from farming in 1990.

Warren was a very talented mechanic and carpenter. After retirement, Warren and Dorothy spent several winters in the south, and loved to camp, fish, and travel. Warren will most lovingly be remembered cradling a child, grandchild, or great-grandchild. He was a long time member of the Hudson Community Church.

Warren is survived by his wife, Dorothy; two daughters, Mary (Ed) Bucy, of rural Hudson, Diane (Todd) Karr, of rural Montour; three sons, Dennis (Linda) of Center Point, Larry of Omaha, and Rex (Valarie) of Manchester; 15 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a brother-in-law, Leon Christensen of Reinbeck; and a sister-in law, Alene Lundberg of Cedar Falls.

He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Kenneth Schlicht, and a sister, Dorothy Christensen.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 21, 2013, at the Community Church of Hudson, with burial at Hudson Cemetery. Visitation will 4—7:00 p.m. Tuesday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, and one hour before service at the church. Memorials may be directed to the Community Church of Hudson Scholarship Fund or the Hudson Public Library Foundation.
