Howard was born March 22, 1926, in Cedar Falls, Iowa, the son of Howard Lester and Ida May (Bandfield) Lantz. He graduated from Hazelton High School in 1943 and went on to serve his Country in the United States Navy during World War II.

On November 16, 1945, he was united in marriage to Ethel N. Westgate in Wickford, RI. She died January 24, 1998. He was employed at Chamberlin Manufacturing in Waterloo as manager of plant engineering. He was a member of the Waterloo Elks Club and the Cedar Falls AMVETS Post #49.

He is survived by daughter, Virginia "Ginny" (John) Hopkins of Waterloo; sons, Mitch (Susie) Lantz of Waterloo and Don (Ellie) Lantz of Papillion, NE; eleven grandchildren, Michael Hopkins, Lindsay Hopkins, Jeffrey Lantz, Nathan Lantz, Erica Lantz, Crista Lantz, Ashley Lantz, Brett Lantz, Emily (Matt) Nolting, Steve (Jessica) Schmitt and Andy Schmitt; great grandchild, Jack Nolting; brother, Charles Lantz of Cedar Falls; sisters, Mary Saunders and Florence Friis, both of Cedar Falls and Genevieve Till of Florida and special friend, Mary Rathbone of Cedar Falls.

Howard died Saturday, April 3, 2004, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Daniel and Donald Lantz and sisters, Irene Phelps and Lucille Whitney.
