Ralph L. Pender was born September 22, 1920, in Colfax, Iowa, the son of Ezra Cole and Laura (Kennedy) Pender. He graduated from North High School in Des Moines in 1939 and later went on to serve his Country in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. On January 10, 1948, he was united in marriage to Zorah Pieart in Des Moines. He was a route drive with Furnas Ice Cream in Des Moines. Following retirement, he worked as a custodian at the elementary school in St. Marys. He was a life long member of the V.F.W.

Ralph is survived by his wife, Zorah of Cedar Falls, daughter, Rebecca Sale of Cedar Falls; son, Jeffrey Pender of Mesa, AZ; three grandsons, Adam (Christina) Pender of St. Marys, IA and Jeffrey and Daniel Sale of Cedar Falls; two great grandsons and four sisters: Marjorie Smith and Arlene Campbell, both of California, Marilyn Pieart of Des Moines and Betty Shepherd of Ohio.

Ralph died Tuesday, November 25, 2003, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brother, Russel, Harold and Donald and two sisters, Grace and Margaret.

Services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, December 1, 2003 at the Nazareth Lutheran Church Chapel in Cedar Falls, with interment in the Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Des Moines at 1:30 p.m. Visitation will by one hour prior to the services at the church on Monday. Memorial contributions may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice.
