WATERLOO — Mary Joann Higgins, 56, of 4175 Suburban Drive died Sunday, Dec. 7, 1997 at home of cancer.

She was born Sept. 28, 1941, in Burdette, daughter of Dale Henry and June Arlene Simpson Steding. She married Eugene Richard Higgins on July 10, 1959, in Waterloo. He died Sept. 2, 1978.

Mrs. Higgins was employed in the TCS department at GMAC Mortgage Corp., worked at Garden Flowers and was a hostess-manager at Howard Johnson for eight years.

Survived by two sons, Daniel and Jeffrey, both of Cedar Falls; a daughter, Kelly Russell of Waterloo; seven grandchildren; four brothers: Larry Steding of Iowa Falls, Terry and Gary Steding, both of Eldora, and William Steding of Ackley; and a sister, Sheril Farris of Ackley.

Preceded in death by her parents.

Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Friends may call 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service/South Street, with a 7 p.m. vigil service.

Memorials may be directed in her name to Cedar Valley Hospice.
