WATERLOO, Iowa - Vera M. Hinz, 79, of Waterloo, died Monday, July 1, 2013, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home.

She was born Dec. 28, 1933, in Waterloo, daughter of Fay and Hazel Moyer Bartholomew. She married Ervin W. Bahlmann, and they were later divorced. She married Donald L. Hinz on Oct. 1, 1965, in Waterloo.

She attended Waterloo East High School and Young College of Beauty. She owned and operated Vera’s Salon of Beauty in Waterloo for 40 years.

Survived by her husband; three sons, David M. (Ellen) Bahlmann of West Salem, Wis., Steven F. (Margaret) Bahlmann of Tucson, Ariz., and Ronald L. Hinz of Lee’s Summit, Mo.; two daughters, Nanci L. Bevard and Shari L. (Randy) Kelsey, both of Waterloo; 10 grandchildren, Kenney (Heidi) Bahlmann, Michael (Beverly) Bahlmann, Shelly (Daniel) Erpelding, Chelsey Bahlmann, Whitney (Gary) Herndon, Jeremy Bevard, Celena Brick, Solomon (Audrey) Hinz, Brandon and Jillian Kelsey; 15 great-grandchildren; a sister, Marla (Robert) Horslund of Grand Prairie, Texas; and a brother, Ivan Bartholomew of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by her parents.

Services: 1 p.m. Friday at Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel, preceded by two hours of visitation, with burial in Waterloo Cemetery.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

Vera loved playing bridge with her friends, going for drives with her husband and crafting. She was especially fond of caroling with her family on Christmas eve.
