Services for Walter H. Schmitt, 82, of 2519 Lafayette St., will be 1 p.m Saturday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with burial in Calvary Cemetery.

A rosary service will be 7:30 p.m. Friday at Oppold Funeral Home, where friends may call until 9 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday. He died Thursday at St. Francis Hospital.

He was born Aug. 28, 1901, at; Dewar, son of Frank and Johanna Murphy Schmitt.

He married Vivian O'Connor April 11, 1923, at Raymond. She died in April 1967. He worked at John Deere Tractor Works for 30 years before retiring in January 1967.

He is survived by a son, Eugene of 2519 Lafayette St.; two daughters, Mrs. Harry Leeper of 728 Burr Oak Ave., Evansdale, and Mary Jo Buntrock of Tempe, Ariz.; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Gertrude Pese of Dunkerton.
