CEDAR FALLS - Edgar N. "Ed" Smith, 86, of Cedar Falls, died Sunday, April 1, 2007 at Sartori Memorial Hospital.

He was born April 14, 1920, in Rolfe, son of Ernest M. and Bertha E. Stinson Smith. On Sept. 30, 1943, he married Maxine C. Mann in Waterloo. She died July 6, 1982. He then married Alice M. Kiewiet in January 1983. She died March 3, 2001.

Mr. Smith served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was employed at Black's Department Store in Waterloo from 1946 until retiring in 1980.

Survivors include three daughters: Linda L. (Jerell) Janssen and Nancy A. (Mark) Kelley, both of Cedar Falls, and Janet S. (Jerry) Rasmussen of Waterloo; a daughter-in-law, Mona K. Smith; 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ione Ott of Pocahontas and Donna (Virgil) Behrendsen of Gilmore City; and three stepsons, Ronald L. Kiewiet of Waterloo and Craig A. (Mary) Kiewiet and Kurt K. Kiewiet, both of Cedar Falls.

Preceded in death by a son, Stewart; six brothers, George, Clyde, Ernest Jr., Clifford, Marvin Lee and Ray Smith; and three sisters, Flossie Mae, Nanna Lea and Betty.

Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church, Cedar Falls, with burial in Garden of Memories, Waterloo. Public visitation from noon until 7 p.m. Tuesday at Richardson Funeral Home and for an hour before services Wednesday at the church.
