C. L. Tarbell, 82, a former Waterloo resident, died Tuesday at San Bernardino, Calif.

He was born Oct. 26, 1871, at Wakonda, Illinois. On Dec. 31, 1899, at Chicago, he married Sarah Morse, who died Oct. 1, 1930. In 1918 he came to Waterloo and was in charge of the timekeeping and payroll department at the John Deere Waterloo Tractor Works from June 16, 1918, to July 31, 1946, when he retired. He was a member of the Supervisors Club of the John Deere plant. After retirement he moved to California.

Survivors include three sons, Charles G. of Glendale, Mo., Martin of Temple City, Calif., and Robert M. of Syracuse, N. Y.

The body will arrive at Kistner Funeral Home at 1:10 a. m. Saturday. Funeral services will be Saturday at 2 p. m. at the Kistner Funeral Home. The Rev. Andrew Hofer, assistant pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, will officiate. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Notes: His son, Robert's obit says his father C. L. is "Charles". It may be confused with Robert's brother Charles. Several articles in the Courier speak of Clarence Tarbell, including one about John Deere, where C. L. worked.
