CEDAR FALLS - Joyce A. Mead was born June 5, 1927, in Cedar Falls, Iowa, the daughter of Clarence and Mabel (Park) Smith. She graduated from Cedar Falls High School in 1945. On July 25, 1948, she was united in marriage to Clifford J. Mead at First United Methodist Church in Cedar Falls. He died March 20, 1998.

She was employed at Rath Packing in Waterloo from 1955 until 1979. She and Clifford retired to Harpers Ferry, IA and returned to Cedar Falls in 1995. She was past President of both the Cedar Falls AMVETS Auxiliary (1970-71) and AMVETS Auxiliary Department of Iowa (1974-75).

Survived by her son, Milo R. Mead of Cedar Falls; daughter, Connie J. (Edward) Kugel of New Hartford; grandchildren: Levi M. Mead, Angela (Chris) Kliewer, Jeanette M. Jacobsen, Edward M. (Jennifer) Kugel, and Teresa A. (Scott) Kugel; ten great grandchildren; five brothers: Wayne F. Smith of Carson City, NV, Claude (Isy) Smith of Gardnerville, NV, Clyde (Gloria) Smith of Knobnester, MO, Lauren (Joyce) Smith of Prairie du Chien, WI, and Dennis E. (Kathy) Smith of San Lorenzo, CA; sister, Ruth Anne Caldwell of Prairie du Chien, WI; and special friend, Dalene Ransom of Cedar Falls.

Joyce died Friday, October 21, 2005, at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband.
