WATERLOO - Welden F. "Chris" Christensen, 83, of Waterloo, died Friday, March 2, 2007 at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home.

He was born Sept. 7, 1923, in Nashua, son of Wendell H. and Lauretta H. Forbes Christensen. He married Bonnie Lee Peverill on Aug. 14, 1949, in Waterloo.

Mr. Christensen served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He had been vice president of the former Peoples Bank and Trust Co. for 21 years. He then was president of the Whiteside County Bank, Morrison, Ill., and until retirement in 1981, owned and operated Garden of Memories Cemetery. He was a charter member and past president of the Sunrise Exchange Club.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Marius P. (Linda) and Alan F. (Lacie), both of Cedar Falls; a daughter, Joy E. Christensen of Waterloo; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and a brother, Wendell F. (Pauline) of Deltona, Fla.

Preceded in death by a brother, Ronald; and a sister, Waneta Wicklund.

Services: 1 p.m. Tuesday at Cedar Valley Community Church, with inurnment at a later date in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Public visitation from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday at Richardson Funeral Home, Cedar Falls, with family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Visitation also for an hour before services Tuesday at the church.

Memorial fund has been established.
