WATERLOO — Effie Mather, 95, of Parkview Nursing & Rehab Center, Waterloo, died Wednesday, June 19, at Allen Hospital.

She was born Jan. 26, 1918, in Bidwell, daughter of Benjamin and Lura Ann Brooks Walters. She married Curtis Mather on Feb. 15, 1936, in Ottumwa. He died Sept. 27, 1981.

Mrs. Mather worked at W.T. Grant for more than 30 years until they closed. She then worked for Wine Art until she retired. She was an active member of Central Christian Church and was a member of White Shrine and Order of the Eastern Star.

Survived by two sons, Byron Curtis (Linda) of Janesville and James Edward of Waterloo; five grandchildren, Debra Ann (Mark) Renner, Byron Curtis (Vickie) Mather Jr., James Edward (Dana) Mather II, Michelle Marie Mather and Benjamin Joseph (Kristen) Mather; seven great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by nine sisters, Anna Irene Spurlock, Esther and Ruth Walters, Elsie Fisher, Doris Richmond, Flora “Lovey” Forbes, Dorothy Shadow, Rose Elaine Walters and Virginia Ann Rothenberger; seven brothers, Carl, James, Martin, Robert, Thomas, Dwane and Paul Richard; and two siblings in infancy.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at Central Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Visitation from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Locke Funeral Home, where there will be a 6 p.m. Waterloo Chapter 128 Order of Eastern Star service.

Memorials, in lieu of flowers: may be directed to the church.
