WATERLOO — Hulda Poorman, 99, of Glendale, Ariz., formerly of Waterloo, Waverly and Shell Rock, died Saturday, June 15, 2013, at Villa Theresa Adult Care Center in Glendale.

She was born Feb. 27, 1914, in Maxfield Township, Bremer County, daughter of Moritz and Sarah Pape Jaschen. She married Max Poorman on May 13, 1936, at St. James Lutheran Church, Mason City. He preceded her in death.

Mrs. Poorman graduated from Pitze’s Beauty Academy, Waterloo, in 1934 and worked in Calmar, Mason City and Shell Rock. She ran her own beauty shop in Shell Rock and then in Waverly. They moved to Sun City, Ariz., in 1970. She was a member of Shepherd of the Desert Lutheran Church, Sun City.

Survived by a son, Gary (Billie) of Minneapolis; two grandchildren; a great-grandson; and a sister, Anetta Graening of Waverly.

Preceded in death by her husband; her parents; four brothers, Ernest, Gustav, Richard and Walter; and five sisters, Erna Bublitz of Mason City, Lizzie Buhr of Sumner, Bertha Tims of Phoenix, Malinda Applegate of Sun City, Calif., and Martha Nolte of Readlyn.

Services: 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Waverly, with burial in Riverside Cemetery, Shell Rock, with visitation for an hour before services at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to the family or donors’ preference.
