Services for James A. McDowell 79, of 309 State St., will be 1 p m Tuesday at O'Keefe & Towne/Carter & Waychoff Funeral Home, with burial in Compton Cemetery, Lamont. He died Thursday morning at home.

He was born Feb. 12, 1906 in Grundy County, son of William and Edith Craig McDowell. He married Elsie Carr March 14, 1929, in Waterloo. She died in 1975. He worked at Rath Packing Co 40 years, retiring in 1968.

Survivors include a son, Claude of Evansdale; a daughter, Jessie Rosen of Louisville, Ky.; three grandchildren; and a brother, Cecil of Des Moines.

Friends may call at the funeral home after noon Monday, where the family will receive friends 6 to 8 p m Monday.
