WATERLOO - Clement "Clem" Pelikan, 82, of Waterloo, died Monday, Jan. 21, 2008, as a result of an accident on I-380.

He was born Nov. 23, 1925, in Howard County, son of John and Stella Sheling Pelikan. He married Valva Eaton Nielson Feb. 7, 1970, at St. John's Catholic Church, Waterloo.

He worked in the hog kill at Rath Meat Packing plant until they closed. Then he was employed at Tama Packing & Swift Packing in Marshalltown. Most recently he worked part time at Enterprise, C&S Car Co., Dan Deery Motor and Winnebago.

Survived by his wife; a stepson, Rick Nielson of North Dakota; two daughters, Pam (Gene) McNamara of Dunkerton and Diane Pelikan Reed of Texas; 10 grandchildren, Ronnie, Chad, Denise, Jamie, Tami, Rayne, Amanda, Allison, Isaac and Billy; 15 great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Caroline Renn of Florida.

Preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Debra Gaffney; a son-in-law, Ron Gaffney; and two brothers, John and Frank (Agnes).

Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, where there will be a 4 p.m. rosary by the Legion of Mary and a 7 p.m. vigil service. Visitation also for an hour before services at the church on Friday.
