WATERLOO - Kenneth G. Ketcham, 81, of Waterloo, died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2008, at Lakeview Landing.

He was born Jan. 29, 1926, in Burnsville, Ill., son of Homer and Ida Boyd Ketcham. He married Eleanor McNally Aug. 1, 1949, at Immaculate Conception Church, Carthage, Ill.

Mr. Ketcham graduated from Carthage High School in 1944. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theatre.

He received his B.S. degree from Monmouth College in 1949. During his college career he lettered in football and baseball. He was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity and the Beta Beta Beta science honors group. He received his master's degree from the University of Iowa in physical education in 1954 and was elected to the National Physical Education Honor Society. He later enrolled in the University of Northern Iowa and earned 60 graduate hours in guidance and school administration. He was a member of Phi Delta Kappa.

He began teaching and coaching at Van Wert and Manly. He taught and coached in the Waterloo Schools for 16 years and served as a school administrator for 22 years. During the summer he coached the American Legion baseball team which won the 1964 and 1965 District Regional Tournament.

He was a lifetime member of the American Legion, the Knights Of Columbus, St. Edward's Catholic Church and the Sierra Club. Kenneth enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, playing golf and traveling.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Thomas D. Ketcham of Waterloo; two sisters, Mary (Robert) Harnetiaux of Hamilton, Ill., and Betty (Gordon) Wilson of Tuscon, Ariz.; and a brother, Richard (Marcella) Ketcham of La Harpe, Ill.

Preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Bonnie Martin; and four brothers, Robert "Boyd", Eugene, James and Keith.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Edward's Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery, where full military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 138 and Veteran Of Foreign Wars Post 1623. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, where there will be a 5 p.m. Knights Of Columbus rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil service.

Memorials may be directed to St. Edward's Catholic Church or Cedar Valley Hospice.
