WATERLOO - Junior L. (Shorty) Converse, 86 of Rosewood Estates, died Friday, Jan. 11, 2008, at his home.

He was born January 31, 1921 in Waterloo, son of Loren and Elsie Converse. He married Lorretta Dean on June 14, 1941, in Kirksville, Missouri. Mr. Converse was employed with John Deere Waterloo Tractor Works for 37 years, retiring in 1977. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the Army 9th Tank Division under General Patton.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter Beverly (Don) Joines of Garwin; three granddaughters: Kellie Kisner, Kimberly (Chris) Wise, and Amy (Jeff) Earle; three great-grandchildren: Melissa Joines, Christina Earle, and Ryan Earle; and a sister Eva Hoeppner of Cedar Falls.

He is preceded in death by two sisters, Hulda Schneck and Anna Prochaska, and a brother Walter Converse.

Services will be 1:00 p.m. Monday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street with burial in Garden Of Memories Cemetery where full military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 138 and Veteran Of Foreign Wars Post 1623.

Friends may call from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials will be directed to Alzheimers research.
