OLD CALIFORNIA GOLD SEEKER
SUFFERED BREAKDOWN.

Citizen of Waterloo for 47 Years
Had Varied Career.

D. A. Kennedy of 310 Freemont Street, resident of Waterloo for 13 years, died at St. Francis Hospital yesterday afternoon at 5 o'clock following a general physical breakdown. The remains were taken to Hileman & Gindt's Parlors where they will remain until arrangements for funeral are completed.

Dennis A. Kennedy was born at Powerscourt, County Wicklow, Ireland on Jan. 1, 1833, where his father, John Kennedy, was agent of the earl of Powerscourt. His parents came to the United States in 1836, settling first in Maine, afterward removing to Wisconsin.

Mr. Kennedy settled in Waterloo in 1872, and was first engaged in the operation of the cracker factory established that year near the Illinois Central shops, and in which his patented rotary oven was installed. Afterwards he was engaged in different lines of business here.

In early life he traveled much and was one of the early gold seekers in California.

He leaves his widow, Lorain A. Kennedy; daughters, Mrs. A. L. Craig of Washington, D. C., Mrs. H. C. Lewis of Chanute, Kan., and sons, Charles A. and George C. Kennedy, both of Waterloo.
