Janet L. Eastman, 54, died Saturday, Oct. 22, 2005, at Country View of progressive multiple sclerosis. She was preceded in death by her father.

She was born May 1, 1951, in Waterloo, daughter of Eugene E. and Beverly Landau Smelser. She married Stanley Eastman on May 23, 1970, in Cedar Falls.

She graduated from Waterloo East High School in 1969 and had been employed in dietary at Allen Hospital. She was then employed at Control-o-Fax as a machine operator and also was a daycare provider prior to her illness. She had been a member of the Women Auxiliary of the Cedar Falls Fire Department and a den leader in the Cub Scouts

She is survived by her son, Jeremy D. of Minneapolis; a daughter, Heidi Jo Eastman of Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren: Kwame, Tryiana, Alivia and Kaitlyn; her mother of Cedar Falls; a brother, Kurt Smelser of Davenport; and four sisters: Judy Mitchell of Waterloo, Joni Lynn of Fort Collins, Colo., LeAnne (Doug) Daringer of Arvada, Colo., and LeDene (Kevin) Donaldson of Aiken, S.C.
