CEDAR FALLS — John W. Henderson, 87, of Cedar Falls, formerly of Burlington, died Sunday, June 2, 2013, at Rehabilitation Center of Hampton in Hampton.

He was born Oct. 25, 1925, in Vandalia, Mo., son of Hugh and Nellie Lott Henderson. He married Mildred Marshall Orton in September 1965 in Wapello, and she died on June 11, 1982. He then married Betty Bacon Hovey on Oct. 25, 1993, in Cedar Falls. She died May 20, 1996.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a mechanic for 40 years, retiring in 1982.

Survived by his son, John D. of Burlington; a daughter, Dawn Henderson of Redlands, Calif.; two stepsons, Steve Hovey of Phoenix and Edward Hovey of Chicago; two stepdaughters, Vicky Orton of Texas City, Texas, and Cindy Isaccs of Chattaroy, Wash.; four grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; and two brothers, Raymond of Colorado and Francis of West Des Moines.

Preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; and a sister.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, preceded by an hour of visitation, with burial in Hillside Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Military honors will be conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49.

A memorial fund will be established.
