Clarinda Potter Colvin Adams
Aged Lady Summoned
Mrs. Clarinda [sic] Adams, 84 years of age, passed away last evening at her home, 71 West Fifteenth street. The aged lady, whose maiden name was Clarinda Potter, was born in Montpieler, Ohio, and has a brother now living at that place. She was twice married, her first husband, Mr. Colvin, being an old soldier who died fifteen years ago at La Porte, their former home. Her second husband, Calvin Adams is also dead. Three sons, Steve, H. and Hiram Colvin reside in Waterloo and another son and a daughter also survive. Mrs. Adams had lived in Waterloo for nearly fifteen years.
A short funeral service will be held this afternoon at 4:30 in the undertaking parlors of O'Keefe & Towne, where the remains were taken. Rev. D. B. Cheney of the First Baptist church will have charge. The body will be taken over the Rock Island tomorrow morning to La Porte where burial will be made.

Note: Clarinda [aka Clorinda] Potter actually had three husbands. She and Alvah Jeremiah Colvin were married about 1848, probably in Crawford Co., PA, and divorced in January 1879. Mecosta Co., MI, records show "Clorinda Potter Colvin," 55, and James Geakey, 61, married 28 Dec 1881. She was, however, identified as Mrs. Clarinda Colvin when she wed Calvin Adams 21 Feb 1899 in Waterloo. The Michigan marriage record and every census gives her birth place as New York.Credit: J.K.
