Dorothy Markussen was born May 31, 1918, in Marshalltown, Iowa, the daughter of Thomas and Vivian (Strickler) Protheroe.

She graduated from Cedar Falls High School in 1936. On May 15, 1942, she was united in marriage to Karl P. Markussen in Cedar Falls. He died January 20, 2002. She was employed as a secretary at Viking Pump in Cedar Falls prior to her marriage and which time she started her family.

She is survived by her sons, Jack (Nancy) Markussen of Waterloo and Tom Markussen of Lansing; daughter, Sue (Bob) Thill of Cedar Falls; four grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.

Dorothy died Saturday, August 13, 2005, at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and sister, Lalieth Reese.
