Wife Finds Body;
Ruled A Suicide

Ronald Garrod Kills
Self With Revolver

A 22-year-old Waterloo man was found by his wife dead of self-inflicted gunshot wounds yesterday morning after she had gone home to determine why he had not show up for work at 8 a.m.

Dead of a bullet wound in the chest was Ronald Wayne Garrod of 1560 Independence Ave., who had died apparently about 1 a.m. according to County Medical Examiner Dr. Paul O'Keefe.

According to Dr. O'Keefe, the body was found by his wife after he failed to show up for work at the Illinois Central Railroad yesterday morning. Both he and his wife worked at the same place, with her getting off at 8 a.m., the same time he was due to begin working.

Dr. O'Keefe said that when attempts to call the couple's mobile home resulted in a busy signal on the telephone, Mrs. Garrod went home to the Woodland Terrace Court and found the body with the telephone receiver clutched in his hand. Police said neighbors reported that they may have heard gunshots early that morning. A .22 caliber revolver was found near the body, and the death was ruled a suicide by Dr. O'Keefe.

Mr. Garrod was born in Chicago, on January 20, 1943, the son of Lloyd Wayne and Bethel Parks Garrod.

He came here in 1954 and attended East High. He joined the Navy in 1960.

Mr. Garrod was married February 26, 1966, to Rosemary Sage at Mt. Hope Methodist Church in Bennington Township. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Railway and Steamship Clerks, and was employed by the Illinois Central Railroad the past seven months. Mr. Garrod was also a member of the Linden Methodist Church.

He is survived by his widow; parents, of Aberdeen, Washington; a brother, Lloyd Garrod, Chicago; and two sisters, Mrs. Jack Weifeld, Chicago, and Mrs. George Cox, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and maternal grandfather, David A. Parks, Aberdeen, Washington.

Services are tentatively set for Tuesday at Mt. Hope Methodist Church.

Memorials may be given to the Linden Methodist or the Mt. Hope Methodist Church in lieu of flowers.

Arrangements are by the O'Keefe & Towne Funeral Home.
