CEDAR FALLS- Merlyn W. "Bill" Voss, 79, of Cedar Falls, died at his home on Friday, November 7, 2008, of Leukemia.

He was born July 1, 1929 in Bremer County, the son of Floyd F. and Marvel I. (Thompson) Voss. He married Donna M. Freerks on August 10, 1952 in Cedar Falls.

Mr. Voss served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was employed with National Tea, Smitty's SuperValu, Gil's SuperValu, and later owned and operated Bill's Food Market for twenty-three years, retiring in 1995. He had been an avid gardener and a member of the Cedar Valley Garden Club.

Survivors include his wife of Cedar Falls; a son, Gary (Karla) Voss of Robins; two grandsons, Neil (Heather) Voss of San Diego, CA and Eric Voss of Cedar Falls; a great granddaughter, Keaton Voss; a sister, Mary (Jack) Mommer of Dike; an aunt, Marjorie (Harvey) Miller of Clarksville; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents; parents; two sisters, Betty Lou Anderson and Mildred "Joyce" Kruse; and a brother, David A. Voss.

Memorial services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, November 15th, at Richardson Funeral Home in Cedar Falls, with private family committal in Lynwood Cemetery, Clarksville at a later date. There will be no public visitation.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Cedar Valley Hospice.
