WATERLOO — Lawrence W. “Bill” Varner Jr., 88, of Waterloo, died Saturday, May 25, 2013, at ManorCare.

He was born Dec. 29, 1924, in Centralia, Ill., son of Lawrence Sr. and Samantha Bradley Varner. He married Darlys Frahm in 1952.

He graduated from West Waterloo High School and served in the U.S. Marine Corps from January 1943 until being honorably discharged in December 1945, serving in the South Pacific.

Survived by his wife; three sons, Marc (Sandy) of Red Wing, Minn., Randy (Dyanna) of Trophy Club, Texas, and Philip (Shari) of St. Charles, Mo.; a daughter, Kristin (Patrick) Maslar of Davidsonville, Md.; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Preceded in his death by his parents; and two sisters, Mae Nattier and Irene Baptist.

Services: 11 a.m. June 13 at First Presbyterian Church, with burial at a later date. Military rites will be conducted by Evansdale AMVETS. Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service, Waterloo, is in charge of arrangements.

Bill enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing pool with his friends and baseball. Bill loved to tell and hear stories, and he loved to laugh. He dearly loved his family.
