GILBERTVILLE — Margaret S. Hess, 91, of Cedar Falls, formerly of Gilbertville, died Thursday, May 23, 2013, at NewAldaya Lifescapes, Cedar Falls.

She was born May 19, 1922, in Gilbertville, daughter of Phillip and Cecilia Schmitz Delagardelle. She married LeRoy “Lee” Hess on Sept. 19, 1945, in Gilbertville. He died Jan. 27, 2010.

Mrs. Hess was a lunchroom cook at Immaculate Conception School, Gilbertville.

Survived by two daughters, Mary (Stephen) Merkel-Hess of Iowa City and Barbara (Richard) Anfinson of Cedar Falls; three grandchildren, Kathryn (Bryan) McDonald, Matthias (Christina Vizcarra) Merkel Hess and Nicole (Jeremy) Howe; four great-grandchildren, Sydney and Zachary Howe, Jed McDonald and Conrad Vizcarra Merkel; a brother, Ronald (Joan) Delagardelle of Maquoketa; three sisters-in-law, Delphine Delagardelle of Jesup, Theresa Delagardelle of Gilbertville and Norma Gavotto of San Diego.

Preceded in death by her twin, Gertrude (Joe) Kettman; and five brothers: Edwin, Donald (Leona), Phillip, James and an infant, Norbert Delagardelle.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, both in Gilbertville. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, where there will be a 4 p.m. rosary. Visitation also for an hour before services Thursday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the church or the Bosco Fund.
