Woman Dies in Waterloo Store

Mrs. E. M. Lichty, Prominent Orange Township Woman Stricken While Shopping.
Mrs. Emma Grace Lichty, one of the most prominent women in Orange township, died Thursday in Black's building in the office of a physician, a few minutes after she was found in a semi-conscious condition on the mezzanine floor. A physician was summoned and she was removed to the office where restorative methods were used without avail as she died without regaining consciousness.

Mrs. Lichty was severely burned by the explosion of gasoline at her home but a short time ago. Altho she had not entirely recovered from the effects of the burns, she was in fairly good health and it is not known whether death came as a direct result of the accident, or as a result of heart trouble. The blaze which partially destroyed the Lichty farm residence, was the third fire suffered by the Lichty family within the last year.

The deceased woman was 56 years of age and for many years was prominent in church and social affairs. She was the wife of Elmer M. Lichty, who is well known in the community in which he resides. She was born in Somerset county, Pennsylvania, in 1864*, and was married there to Elmer M. Lichty in 1879. She came to Iowa with her husband a short time later and they have resided in this state ever since. From early childhood she was a member of the church of Brethren.

Surviving are the husband and six children: Edward W., Clark M., Parker M., and Dorothy J., all of Orange township; Mrs. Alice Kleppinger, Kansas City, Mo., Ruth M. Stauffer, Stockton, Ill. A daughter, Wilma Gay, died in infancy. She is also survived by the following brothers and sisters: D. F. Barkley, Miss Ada Miller, Louis Miller, all of Somerset, Pa., and Harvey Miller, McCook, Neb.
The body was taken to the Peterson brothers undertaking parlors pending funeral arrangements.
