Funeral services are pending at O'Keefe and Towne Funeral Home for John D. Staley, 85, at 123 French St., who died at his home at 3:30 a. m. Sunday of complications of a stroke suffered two weeks ago. Mr. Staley had been an invalid for about 15 years.

He was born in Wabeek, la. Nov. 17, 1875,* the son of Fred and Ida Birmingham Staley. He married Anna Jurgensen April 26, 1915, in Mason. City.

Mr. Staley was a section foreman for the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad, before retirement. He was a Lutheran church member.

Surviving are his wife, four sons, Glenn of 123 French St., Marvin of Dallas, Tex., Carlyle of 701 Stevens St., and Everett of Millerdale; six daughters: Mrs. Eldora Obadal of 105 Roseland Dr., Mrs. LaVonne O'Day of 123 French St., Mrs. Doris Howard of 1734 Wayne St., Mrs. Rachel Bray of Dallas, Tex., Mrs. LaVerna Wilson of Brighton, Colo., and Mrs. LaVae Hippen of 558 Helmet Ave. Also surviving are three brothers: Fred of Viola, Archie of Central City, and-Charles of Maquoketa; three sisters: Mrs. Clark Knight and Mrs. Elda Benton, both, of Viola, and Mrs. Hose Westphal, Wyoming, Ia.; 28 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for John D. Staley, 85, of 123 French St., will be Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at the O'Keefe & Towne Funeral Home. The Rev. W. D. Getting pastor of Iramanuel Lutheran church, will officiate. Burial will be ini Fairview Cemetery. Mr. Staley died Sunday at his home following a stroke.

* His gravestone shows 1874-1961 and his WWI draft registration says he was born in 1876, and the obit says 1875.
