Walter L. Sheets (1939-2011)

APLINGTON- Walter L. Sheets, 71, of Aplington, formerly of Parkersburg, Janesville and Cedar Falls died Monday, June 6, 2011 at Maple Manor Village in Aplington.

He was born July 23, 1939 in Chico, California, son of Kenneth and Margaret Sheets.

He earned an AA degree from Indian Hills Community College and his BA degree in Criminology from the University of Northern Iowa. He was employed as a cook with Highway 20 Diner and gave speeches to area high schools and colleges about his life lessons. As a trained chef, he made and sold cheesecakes in the Parkersburg area.

Survived by a daughter, Maggie (Jim) Averill of New Hartford; two stepsons, Nick Beronich of Corona, CA, and Eli White of Seattle, WA; and six grandchildren.

Preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Barbara.

Public visitation from 10 a.m. to 12 noon on Saturday, June 18, 2011 at the Richardson Funeral Home, Cedar Falls. No services are scheduled at this time.
