Ronald L. Griffith, 75, of Cedar Falls, died October 20, 2008, of cancer at The Lodge LaPorte City Nursing & Rehab Facility.

He was born October 17, 1933 in Waterloo, son of Harold and Lucille Frost Griffith. Ronald graduated from Waterloo East High School in 1952. He was voted the Most Valuable Athlete his senior year by the Lettermens Club. From 1953-1955 he served in the Army and was stationed in Germany. He was a life member of the Cedar Falls Amvets Post 49. He was employed with Rath Packing Company for many years and later with John Deere. He had a summer place in Harpers Ferry IA which he loved. He enjoyed fishing boating and being with his wonderful friends there. Ron was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan!! He followed all sports especially the Minnesota Twins and Vikings.

He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law Patti and Jim Witt of Apple Valley, MN, also his nephew Barry & Beth Witt of Menomonee Falls, WI; nieces: Lisa & Bob Perri of Walled Lake, MI, Angi & Greg Dorfner of Savage, MN, and Gini & Dave Syverson of Apple Valley, MN, and eight great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother and step-father Lucille and Daniel Seery and his father Harold Griffith.

Ron will be sadly missed by his family and friends. We wish to acknowledge the Cedar Valley Hospice (Elizabeth and Meredith and staff) and LaPorte City Nursing & Rehab Facility (Rose and Pam and staff) for their wonderful care of Ron. Also a very special thanks and appreciation for the kindness and support extended to us by Mary Jo Dirks and her family and Karen Sadler. You have been such a blessing to us.

Services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday at St. Patricks Catholic Church with burial in the St. Patricks section of Greenwood Cemetery where full military rites will be conducted by Cedar Falls Amvets Post 49. Public visitation will be for one hour before services at the church on Friday.

Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice in Waterloo.
