Lavon Elizabeth Anna Oldenburger, age 91, of Cedar Falls, died Sunday, October 26, 2008 at the Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community in Waverly.

Lavon was born on November 7, 1916 in rural Clarksville, Iowa, the daughter of Conrad and Kate (Dickman) Schrage. She was raised in rural Clarksville and attended Riden Country School until the 8th grade. Lavon then went to work as a housekeeper for the Daily family in Allison, the Blake family in Shell Rock, and the Darby family from Clarksville. On October 6, 1940 Lavon was united in marriage to Benjamin Oldenburger at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. The couple farmed in the Nashua, Plainfield, and Bremer areas for the next years. In 1970 they moved to Cedar Falls and Lavon lived there until her passing.

Lavon's enjoyments included cooking, baking, sewing, gardening, making meals for the thrashers, playing cards with the neighbors, and most of all spending time with her children and grandchildren. Lavon was baptized and confirmed at the St. John's Lutheran Church in Clarksville and was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church Western Douglas.

Lavon's memory is honored by her two children, Judith Walther and special friend Elmer Willemsen of Newton and Mike "Oly" (Kim) Oldenburger of Cedar Falls, a brother, Bernard (Marlys) Schrage of Waverly, ten grandchildren: Teressa (David "Tiny") Nelson of Charles City, Dawn (Kevin) Petersen of Radcliff, Nicole (Robert "Bobby") Adams Cashion, OK, Scott (Kayla) Walther of Surprize, AZ, Michael (Sara) Oldenburger of Cedar Falls, Jimmy and Tony (friend Sara) Oldenburger both of Cedar Falls, and Cory, Teri, and Alyssa Albright all of Cedar Falls, nineteen great grandchildren: Amanda (Kirk) DePeuw, Dustin Burens, Dakota Janssen, Bonnie and Zeke Nelson, Crystal (Ryan) Daniels, Bradley (Crystal) Frederickson, Russell (friend Rachel) Fredericksen, Ryan (Fiance' Katie) Reisinger, Mindy Reisinger, Beth Petersen, Tessa, Trina, and Jered Adams, Adalyn and Karrissa Oldenburger, Ava Paige, Malachi Mabry and Ni'Layja Stanford, three great-great grandchildren, Cheyanne, McKenzie, and Alexiz, a grandson-in-law, Roy Fredericksen.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her brother, Ora Schrage, a son-in-law, Jerry Walther and a granddaughter, Brenda Fredericksen. A special thanks to Kim Oldenburger for taking care of mom and to all the other special friends we may have forgotten to mention.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, October 30, 2008 at the Good Shepherd Chapel, Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community, with Pastor Keith Tomlinson officiating. Interment will follow at the Hillside Cemetery in Cedar Falls. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 29 at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly where friends may call between 4 and 8 P.M. Memorials may be directed to the family.
