CEDAR FALLS - Greg Logan, 62, of Cedar Falls, formerly of Traer, died Saturday, May 13, 2006, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home, Waterloo, after a long illness.

Robert Gregory Logan, Greg to family and friends, was born April 26, 1944, in Waterloo, son of Robert and Helen Winter Logan.

Mr. Logan graduated from Traer High School in 1962 and from the University of Northern Iowa in 1968. He was a teacher and wrestling coach at Iowa Falls High School for a year before being drafted to serve in Vietnam. After his service, he worked as a forest ranger in northern Minnesota.

Some of his many adventures included working a crab boat off the coast of Alaska and on a cattle ranch in southern Alberta, Canada. His love of nature, outdoor activities and people led him to become involved with Outward Bound Schools, instructing and directing. Some of the school locations included northern Minnesota, Colorado, Calgary, Alberta (Enviros) and Black Sturgeon Lake (COBWS.) In 1988, he moved to the Arctic, specifically Iguluit on the Baffin Islands. He worked in the school system and later with Nunavut Tourism, traveling throughout the Arctic. In the fall of 2004, he returned to Iowa after being diagnosed with terminal cancer. His courageous battle ended May 13, 2006.

Survived by his mother, of Cedar Falls; a brother, Tom of Traer; and two sisters, Pam (John) Sternberg of Newton and Laurie (Gary) Richter of Reinbeck.

Preceded in death by his father; and a nephew, Gregory Sternberg.

Memorial services: 1 p.m. Wednesday at Cedar Heights Baptist Church, Cedar Falls, with a committal service with military honors Wednesday morning at Buckingham Cemetery in Traer. No viewing Wednesday at church; public visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service.

Memorials: may be directed to the family for Outward Bound scholarships or Iqualuit Pentecostal Church, Canada.
