Frank Roethler, 87, of 900 Independence Ave., died at 3 p. m. Monday at St. Francis Hospital following a lingering illness.

Funeral services will be at 9 a. m. Wednesday at St. John's Catholic church with Ht. Rev. Msgr. Leo A. Yeager, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. The Rosary Society of the church will recite the rosary at 8 p. m. Tuesday at O'Keefe & Towne Funeral home.

Mr. Roethler was born in Chickasaw County on Dec. 28, 1865, the son of Belcher and Katherine Arnold Roethler. He farmed on the same farm where he was born until his retirement in 1921. He then moved to Waterloo and had made his home here since.

On May 7, 1888, he married Ottilie Marion at North Washington. Mrs. Roethler died Nov. 18, 1946. Mr. Roethler was a member of St. John's Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Olive Owens, Los Angeles, Cal., and Miss Nora Roethler, 900 Independence Ave.; two sons, Alfred, 900 Independence Ave., and Jerome, 820 Independence Ave., and three grandchildren.

In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.
