CEDAR FALLS — William A. “Bill” Wittren, 52, of Ankeny, formerly of Cedar Falls, died Sunday, April 28, 2013, in Norwalk.

He was born Jan. 16, 1961, in Cedar Falls, son of Richard A. and Betty Morelock Wittren. He married Karin M. Buehler in Arizona, and they later divorced.

Mr. Wittren was a 1979 graduate of Cedar Falls High School and a 1983 graduate of Arizona State University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in engineering. He was an electrical engineer for John Deere & Co. for 12 years in the Des Moines area. He volunteered for Habitat for Humanity and sponsored children through Compassion International.

Survived by a son, Michael (Niki Spinner) of Overland Park, Kan.; a daughter, Laura (Brent Hassebrock) Wittren of Monterey, Calif.; his father of Cedar Falls; a brother, Karl (Cheryl) of Waterloo; four sisters: Joan (Dean) Smith of Waterloo, Karen York of Sharon, Wis., Karla Trower of Cedar Falls and Cynthia (Tony) French of Finchford; his girlfriend, Amy Papp of Norwalk; and a brother-in-law, Chris Nelson of Cedar Falls.

Preceded in death by his mother; a sister, Rebecca Nelson; and a nephew, Nicholas Trower.

Services: 2 p.m. Friday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, with burial in Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. today and an hour before services Friday at the funeral home.
