WATERLOO — Andrew J. “Andy” Huff, 70, of Tipton, formerly of Waterloo, died Tuesday, April 30, 2013, at Mercy Hospice House, Hiawatha, after a brief illness with cancer.

He was born Sept. 15, 1942, in Algona, son of John V. and Ethel Baker Huff.

Mr. Huff began his career in the health care industry as an X-ray tech in Iowa Falls, and from there he became the hospital administrator at Guttenberg from 1973 to 1982, and Oelwein from 1982 to 1991. In 1992 he became a senior vice president of facilities at the then St. Francis Hospital, Waterloo. He was instrumental in the merger of St. Francis and Schoitz Hospitals into what is now Covenant Medical Center.

Survived by a son, John (Paula) of Amana; a daughter, Kay (Tom) King of Dyersville; his special friend, Bethany Newnum of Tipton; two grandchildren, Andrea “Andi” and Sam King; a brother, Lyle (Ramona) of Boone; a sister-in-law, Bev Huff of Algona; and his former wife, Jan Huff-Alexander of Jesup.

Preceded in death by a brother, Gene.

Services: 10 a.m. Monday at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville, with burial at noon Thursday in Evergreen Cemetery, Wesley. Visitation from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Kramer Funeral Home, Dyersville, with a 7:30 p.m. vigil service.

Memorials may be directed to Beckman Catholic High School Music and Drama Departments.

Some of Andy’s favorite pastimes were being with his family, especially his grandchildren, attending Hawkeye football games and feeding the birds.
