RAYMOND-Marie Margaret Schmitz, 86, of 209 South Third St., died Monday, Sept. 25.

She was born July 20, 1920, in rural Jesup, daughter of Peter and Louise Frost Youngblut. She married Reynold N. Schmitz on Feb. 22, 1941, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Raymond. He died June 4, 2002.

Mrs. Schmitz was involved in various activities at St. Joseph's and in the Raymond community, among which were sewing, embroidering, quilt making, playing cards and family.

Survivors include: four sons, Dale (Frances) of Des Moines, Keith of Raymond, Brian (Karen) of Marion and Greg (Lisa) of New Hartford; eight daughters, Doris (Gary) Vogel of Dubuque, Kathleen (Don) Thiry of Sherwood, Ark., Joyce Schmitz (Jack Naylor) of Eureka, Calif., Ruth (Steve) Horton of Mount Vernon, Martha Schmitz of Baltimore, Md., Joan (Bill) Johannes of Raymond, Barbara (Mike) Weber of Robins and Gail (Kevin) Boyle of Newalla, Okla.; 33 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Elaine Thoma of Waterloo and Dorothy (Edward) Schares of Raymond; and three brothers, Earl (Agnes) Youngblut of Eagle Center, Ray Youngblut of Jesup and Lester (Edith) Youngblut of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by: a granddaughter, Alison Horton Jacobi; and two brothers, John and Harold Youngblut.

Services: 10 a.m. Friday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Gilbertville, with burial in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Raymond. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, Waterloo, with a 4 p.m. rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil service. Visitation also for an hour before services Friday at the church.

Memorials: may be made to the Bosco System or the family.
