WATERLOO — Howard Gerald Masters, 82, of Waterloo, died Monday, April 29, 2013, at Allen Hospital emergency room.

He was born May 11, 1930, in Oelwein, son of Jesse Marion and Effie Mae Reed Masters. He married Norma Huse on July 26, 1953, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Waterloo.

Mr. Masters graduated from Oelwein High School in 1949 and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. He was employed as the service manager at Mueller’s Furniture Store for 49 years, retiring in 1996. He was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, where he was past president of the congregation, building chair, elder, head usher and money counter.

Survived by his wife; three sons: Timothy Irvin (Angie) of Moriarty, N.M., LeRoy Earl (Wendy) of Mankato, Minn,, and Dale Howard (Tani) of Albuquerque, N.M.; six grandchildren: Ryan Masters, Rhaea Baity, Tobie (Steven) Ness, Adam Masters, Tacy Masters and Sarah Masters; six great-grandchildren, Paige Masters, Madison Masters, Tyler Masters, Ethan Baity, Simon Baity and Daniel Ness; two brothers, Raymond (Alyce) of Lincoln, Neb., and Wayne of Columbus, Ohio; and three sisters: Norma Lee (Roger) Van Haften of Chanhassen, Minn,, Delores Novak of Rowley and Dorothy Olsen of Cedar Falls.

Preceded in death by five brothers: Glenn, Ralph, Donald, Delbert and Jesse; two sisters, Velma Mervin and Florence Spece.

Services: 10 a.m. Friday at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Cedar Falls, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery, Waterloo. Full military rites will be conducted by Waterloo AMVETS Post 19 and Evansdale AMVETS Post 31. Visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, Waterloo, and for an hour before services Friday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the church.
